Sunlight and Shadows
We aim to capture the drama created by strong shadows in a landscape. It may be summer clouds drifting across a hillside, the long evening shadows in a woodland or deep blue shadows within a snow scene. We will look at the bold tonal range within the composition, the wide range of colours found in shadows and play with textures in stitch to create our embroidered picture.

Up Close and Personal
Inspired by the detail and complexity of flowers and leaves students will explore how to create these in paint and stitch. They will learn how to blend using freehand machine stitching, creating a smooth transition through colour and tonal ranges. We will explore interesting stitch techniques for petals, stamens, anther etc. creating depth and definition to each composition. We will create a silk painted background to set off this dramatic flower study.
